Case Study: Merck achieves scalable, company-wide innovation and 8,500+ engaged employees with Brightidea

A Brightidea Case Study

Preview of the Merck Case Study

Merck - Customer Case Study

Merck, a global healthcare leader (known as MSD outside the US and Canada), needed to scale and sustain an internal innovation program. Ideas had been collected in an unwieldy list, engagement was uneven, and the company lacked a centralized way to evaluate, prioritize, and develop employee and partner ideas across the organization.

In May 2013 Merck adopted the Brightidea platform and created dedicated program managers to run focused “Challenges” and drive best practices. The effort produced four self-sustaining innovation communities, five ongoing initiatives plus about ten short-term Challenges per year, more than 8,500 active participants, and tangible outcomes such as the “Map My Mind” internal process tool, while building a searchable ideas repository for future opportunity mining.
