Cabot Microelectronics, a global specialty chemicals and performance materials company, needed a better way to build an innovation program and keep ideas moving beyond traditional brainstorming sessions. Its leaders wanted a platform that could engage 4,600 employees worldwide, support collaboration across locations, and help identify new market opportunities and solve complex problems. Cabot chose Brightidea to create a more flexible, intuitive innovation process.
Brightidea implemented a hybrid physical and virtual challenge model that used time-boxed crowdsourcing, employee voting and comments, Active Directory integration, and pipeline tools to score and prioritize ideas. The approach helped Cabot capture and centrally document knowledge while broadening participation across the company. Most importantly, Brightidea helped surface breakthrough ideas, with two ideas from one campaign expected to generate tens of millions of dollars for Cabot.
