How brighter AI and LAT Digitalize Berlin’s Tram Network

Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), Germany's largest public transport company, needed to digitally record tram routes for driver training but faced significant data privacy challenges. Capturing footage of public streets inevitably included personal data of passengers and bystanders, making it impossible to use the material without violating GDPR. They partnered with brighter AI to find a solution that would allow them to use this video content in a compliant manner.

brighter AI addressed this challenge with its Precision Blur software, an AI-powered tool that anonymizes faces and license plates in the video footage. The solution, integrated by partner LAT, enabled near real-time anonymization directly on the recording hardware. As a result, brighter AI helped BVG create 75 hours of privacy-compliant video material, effectively virtualizing the entire Berlin tram network for effective and secure driver training.
