Rackspace, a global managed cloud provider, sought to increase revenue through lead generation and customer education by improving large-scale search rankings. Despite a large client base, it faced formidable online competitors (AWS, GoDaddy, Microsoft, etc.) and discovered content gaps—especially in white papers, guides, videos, catalogs and FAQs—that limited its non-branded organic visibility.
To address this, Rackspace ramped up on-site content production and launched an earned-media PR campaign (syndicated and non‑syndicated placements, infographics, social outreach), while using BrightEdge to track 1,000+ targeted keywords, share of voice, landing-page recommendations and link opportunities. The campaign moved six non-branded keywords an average of 61 positions to an average rank of 5.6 (first page) and increased organic, non-branded keyword traffic by 212%.
