Channel 4, a leading UK broadcaster known for commissioning from 300+ independent producers and expanding channels like E4 and Film4, needed to differentiate its online presence as viewers shifted to Internet TV. Tasked with rolling out a short-form video portal to promote linear channels and drive 4oD adoption, Jen Topping opted against an in‑house build due to cost, time and maintenance constraints and ran an RFP to find a dedicated platform provider.
Channel 4 selected Brightcove to power short-form video across channel4.com and sister sites, taking advantage of the platform’s longevity, flexibility, fast deployment and controlled monetisation. Within six months video views rose 21% year‑on‑year, publishing turnaround and encoding reliability improved, and enhanced search and syndication capabilities helped expand reach and monetisation opportunities.
