Social Media Akademie (SMA), founded in 2010, is an online academy for German-speaking social media, communications and marketing professionals offering live webinars, on‑demand HD lectures and certificate programs. SMA needed a more secure, user‑friendly video solution that worked across browsers and devices and could track individual viewers’ progress (students must watch at least 80% of lectures) — legacy Silverlight/Java players required lengthy multi‑step authentication and hindered usability.
In August 2013 SMA implemented Brightcove Video Cloud and worked with Brightcove’s team and its in‑house developer to build a customized tracking and reporting solution via the platform’s open API. The result: fast, one‑click access across platforms, per‑user view tracking for certification, student satisfaction rising from ~70% to over 90%, continuous tech updates and analytics that support future subscription and content plans.
