How The Tribeca Film Festival Transitioned To Virtual With Blockbuster Results

Tribeca Film Festival, a cornerstone New York event and longtime Brightcove partner, was forced to postpone its in-person 2020 edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizers needed to keep the festival’s community, press, jurors and filmmakers engaged and find ways to screen and judge films without theaters or traditional live programming.

Using Brightcove Gallery and its existing video platform, Tribeca quickly launched a short-film series, the virtual “Tribeca Talks® At Home,” press and industry screening libraries, and juror-specific film libraries with remote deliberations. The virtual pivot preserved press coverage, enabled sales and distribution for filmmakers, allowed juries to judge from anywhere, and extended the festival’s reach and runtime—creating broader access, new revenue and strong audience engagement.
