Drum Corps International (DCI) is a nonprofit global youth performing organization that draws millions of fans to its annual tour and World Championships. After public television dropped coverage and cable/ESPN2 proved costly and limited, DCI faced mounting demand from a passionate fan base for broader access to performances and a way to monetize its content directly.
DCI partnered with Brightcove to build its own online broadcast platform, launching in 2005 with an audio subscription and expanding in 2008 to the Fan Network with live streaming, behind‑the‑scenes content and discounted downloads. The move transformed DCI into a full media outlet—subscription revenue rose 125% in the first year, and today DCI operates live streams, a video news feed and a growing e‑commerce business that has become a profitable channel.
