A Brightcove Case Study
Condé Nast Italia, a leading Italian publisher with ten print brands and six digital properties (including Vanity Fair, Vogue Italia and newly acquired La Cucina Italiana), faced a challenge: its digital strategy relied almost entirely on display ads, it lacked a scalable video management and delivery solution, and ad blockers were costing up to 50% of annual ad revenue. CTO Marco Vigand identified three needs — a streaming/transcoding platform, migration and live‑stream support, and better video ad monetization — to unlock video as a revenue stream.
Brightcove provided the solution: scalable ingest/transcoding, bulk upload APIs, branded players, Google Analytics/DFP integrations and server‑side ad insertion (SSAI) to mitigate ad blockers and enable programmatic fill. The result: streamlined workflows, La Cucina Italiana reaching 1.8 million monthly video views within months, an estimated 80% reduction in ad inventory loss from ad blockers, and about €600K in annual video ad revenue (with La Cucina contributing 11%).
