Gaiam, a Boulder-based lifestyle and media company founded in 1988, built Gaiam TV into a subscription video-on-demand service with a library of over 5,000 titles. As the service grew, Gaiam needed a secure, optimized way to deliver professional-quality video across desktops, iOS devices and connected-TV platforms (notably Roku) while preventing piracy and ensuring a consistent viewing experience for subscribers.
Using Brightcove Video Cloud, Gaiam implemented adaptive HLS streaming with AES encryption, unified content management, and analytics-driven optimization. Brightcove’s platform enabled a Roku app and protected iOS playback, increased subscriber counts and usage, simplified multi-platform distribution, and created a scalable foundation for further OTT expansion to Android, smart TVs and gaming consoles.
