How the Academy Awards secured films for Oscar® voters

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences needed to protect its Academy Screening Room, which is used by more than 10,000 members in 102 countries to view films considered for the Oscars. As its international streaming platform expanded, the Academy faced growing piracy and security risks around sensitive, pre-release content. Brightcove helped address this challenge with a forensic watermarking solution for the Academy’s video workflow.

Brightcove, working with Akamai, NAGRA, and BuyDRM, implemented forensic watermarking to uniquely identify users and help track leaked content across the Academy Screening Room. The result was stronger content security, better protection against screen recording and unauthorized distribution, and greater confidence for the Academy to deliver films securely while protecting artists and intellectual property.
