Shedd Aquarium creates a 25’ interactive reef wall with Bridgewater Studio

Shedd Aquarium, a longtime partner of Bridgewater Studio, sought to upgrade an existing exhibit to educate visitors about coral reef restoration. Their challenge was to create a responsive and tactile projection on a 25-foot wall with a modest budget, which required tracking multiple moving people and touch points from a projector located behind them. They also needed to seamlessly hide all the technology from guests.

Bridgewater Studio implemented a solution using 4K projection mapping and a redundant system of hand and body tracking with capacitive touch sensors. They hid the technology by installing the projector in the ceiling, leaving only a small periscope visible. The final interactive wall exhibit successfully educates visitors on the promise of coral restoration through a dynamic and engaging experience.
