Berkshire Life (a Guardian subsidiary) needed to make the web its primary marketing and enrollment channel to grow its multi-life disability insurance business and launch new “buy-up” products in a competitive market. The company required a flexible enrollment system that could support different industries and employee groups, streamline case setup and reporting via web services, manage microsites and dynamic content, and deliver persuasive educational tools and a full online enrollment workflow including eSignatures and electronic billing.
Bridgeline implemented an iAPPS Content Manager solution, using service-level APIs to integrate with Berkshire’s legacy systems, usability-tested prototypes, and customizable microsite portals with calculators, encrypted data transmission, secure PDFs and admin self-service. The system produced measurable gains: a voluntary case exceeded 35% participation in the first two months, Berkshire achieved the industry’s first online sale of a GSI DI product with buy-up, and since 2009 dozens of sites have served thousands of participants while the platform continues to be enhanced for brokers and clients.
