City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust needed a way to better secure and protect data from its Healthcare Information System while also managing growing volumes of clinical and administrative content. The Trust worked with BridgeHead Software and initially implemented BridgeHead’s Scanning & Archiving (FileStore) and integrated backup and disaster recovery (ISB/IDR) for its MEDITECH HIS, before exploring broader archiving needs including imaging, email, and general file storage.

BridgeHead Software then helped City Hospitals Sunderland deploy a vendor neutral archive (VNA) on Dell’s DX6000 Platform to create a single, unified repository for disparate imaging technologies, starting with Ophthalmic imaging. The solution also included BridgeHead’s FileStore for general file archiving and MailStore for 1,000+ mailboxes, delivering improved data protection, reduced vendor lock-in, and better staff efficiency so clinicians could spend more time with patients. The case study cites 8TB of Ophthalmology images and 3TB of general file archiving already in use and growing.
