Bradford Teaching Hospitals Completes One of UK’s Largest Image Migration Projects

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust faced the challenge of migrating a vast archive of 1.7 million radiology studies from a national PACS program before its contract expired. They needed to move this data into a non-proprietary, standards-based system to ensure future accessibility and avoid vendor lock-in. To achieve this, they partnered with BridgeHead Software to implement its HealthStore Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA).

BridgeHead Software provided the solution, successfully migrating 126 million images into the HealthStore VNA at a rate of up to 1.4 million images per day. This gave the Trust complete ownership of its data, stored in a resilient and protected system across two data centers. The project was completed on time and established a future-proof platform that allows the Trust to expand the archive to manage all clinical imaging and non-clinical data hospital-wide.
