CIDRZ - Customer Case Study

The Center for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ) needed dependable voice communications across a wireless WAN that links its main hospital in Lusaka with 28 sites (four labs and 24 clinics) spread around the region. Clinical staff required real-time, life-critical voice connectivity that would integrate with existing MultiTech VoIP gateways and a Toshiba legacy PBX, handle NAT traversal and varied terminals, and work over limited wireless infrastructure. Brekeke Software was engaged to deliver a SIP/softphone-based PBX solution (Brekeke PBX) to meet these challenges.

Brekeke Software installed Brekeke PBX Pro (v2.0.7.2), registered MultiTech VoIP gateways, integrated the Toshiba legacy PBX, deployed 3CX softphones using G.711 u‑law (64 kb/s), configured STUN for NAT traversal, and registered Linksys Wireless‑G IP phones. The deployment connected all 28 sites over the 45 Mbps backbone/36 Mbps last‑mile wireless WAN and enabled seamless call routing between softphones, PBX extensions, VoIP gateways, mobile and PSTN numbers with call‑forwarding sequences and voicemail‑to‑email. The result was reliable, real‑time communications that improved clinician collaboration and response capability across CIDRZ’s dispersed clinics.
