Getty Images Protects Its Trademarked Terms through BrandVerity’s Paid Search Monitoring

Getty Images, the global leader in visual content, faced widespread trademark bidding on its branded keywords (notably iStock and common misspellings) that inflated costs, siphoned high‑value traffic, and threatened brand equity—especially after the team stopped bidding on their own brand terms. To regain visibility and enforce trademarks at scale, Getty Images selected BrandVerity’s Paid Search Monitoring platform.

BrandVerity implemented a worldwide monitoring program that surfaced infringing ads, provided actionable ad data and custom reporting, and enabled bulk trademark complaints to search engines. Using BrandVerity, Getty Images removed over 700 unique non‑compliant ads, discovered that 35% of a competitor’s ads infringed iStock trademarks (and had those ads taken down), and achieved a greater than 60% reduction in trademark‑infringing ads within the first five months (monthly infringing impressions fell from 50,767 to 15,461).
