Puma, a major global sport and lifestyle brand, faced a significant challenge with browser-injected ads that were diverting its online shoppers to competitor sites. These ads, which offered discounts on the same products, were causing customer distraction and increasing exit rates, though the scale of the problem was initially met with some skepticism. To address this, Puma partnered with cybersecurity vendor BrandLock to analyze and quantify the issue.
BrandLock implemented its Shield solution through a comprehensive A/B testing plan. The solution involved randomly assigning site visitors to either a control group that saw the ads or a protected group where BrandLock disabled them. The results, measured directly in Puma’s own analytics, were significant. After 12 months, BrandLock helped Puma achieve a 7.1% increase in revenue per session, a 7.4% increase in conversion rate, and an 11.4% increase in orders per visit, all while decreasing the bounce rate by 10%.
