Shutterfly Optimizes the Web-to-App Experience and Increases User Engagement with Branch

Shutterfly, a leader in personalized photo products and services, wanted to convert its 20 million monthly mobile web visitors into app users and improve email-driven re-engagement, but lacked a seamless way to route mobile web traffic into the app or preserve link context through install. They needed a solution to boost app adoption and capitalize on higher lifetime value from app users.

Shutterfly implemented Branch Journeys and Universal Email to enable deferred deep linking and context-preserving routing so users land on the same content in-app (installed users bypass the App Store). From Aug 2019–Aug 2020 Branch drove over 1.2M app installs, a 35% click-to-install rate, 24M additional app opens, and 94% of link clicks deep linked into the app; Shutterfly’s app MAUs have grown about 50% year-over-year since 2017.
