8tracks Personalizes Onboarding Flows to Grow In-app Time and Retention

8tracks, the user‑curated music service, wanted to grow native mobile app usage among new and existing users but faced the common challenge of low onboarding conversion and poor install attribution when asking listeners to install the app and resume playback. Building a seamless path from mobile web and other channels into the app was critical to compete in the crowded music market.

By integrating Branch deep links across mobile web, email and social and adding a simple interstitial with a “open in app” button, 8tracks routed users directly to the same playlist (including through app install flows). The change drove a 197% increase in time spent in‑app and an 89% lift in one‑day retention, significantly reducing app abandonment and improving full‑funnel attribution.
