Predicting flight regulations in European airports for EUROCONTROL

EUROCONTROL, a civil-military organization supporting European aviation, faced the challenge of anticipating flight delays caused by capacity issues at airports. They partnered with the vendor Brainjar to build an AI-powered solution to predict flight regulations, which are a primary constraining factor for capacity and a major cause of delays for passengers.

Brainjar developed a machine learning solution using time series forecasting to predict the probability of regulations at Europe's top 100 airports. The model integrated data on weather, strikes, and air traffic control capacity, achieving an accuracy of around 90%. Brainjar also created a Power BI dashboard to visualize the predictions, providing EUROCONTROL with a tool to anticipate bottlenecks and minimize network-wide delays.
