Canadian shopping centre made more efficient with AI for HVAC

Westcliff, a Canadian private real estate company with more than 10 million sq. ft. of leasable space, needed to reduce energy use and improve the efficiency of HVAC equipment at Granby Galleries in Granby, Quebec. They engaged BrainBox AI to deploy AI-driven autonomous HVAC control across roughly 315,000 sq. ft. (about 60%) of the 509,612 sq. ft. shopping centre.

BrainBox AI installed its cloud-based AI and custom control algorithms, completed data mapping and a learning period, and enriched building data with weather and tariff information to autonomously optimise heat pumps and fresh air handling units. Over a year BrainBox AI delivered 205,214 kWh (21%) electricity savings on HVAC (CAD 19,249 in annual savings), cut average equipment runtime by about 55% overall (examples: supply fan -33.5%, heating modulation -91%), and maintained comfort (average zone temp ~69°F versus 68.9°F).
