Australian shopping mall saves energy while reducing equipment runtime

Australian Shopping Mall, a 215,800 sq. ft. shopping centre in New South Wales, engaged BrainBox AI to help meet its goals of reducing carbon emissions, cutting operating costs, and preserving a high-quality visitor experience. The site used an existing Honeywell – Tridium Niagara controls system, and BrainBox AI deployed its predictive, self-adaptive AI solution via a proprietary Tridium Niagara driver to upgrade the HVAC into an autonomous system.

BrainBox AI connected the building’s HVAC to cloud-based algorithms, enriched onsite data with weather and tariff information, and completed a short learning period to tune a building-specific control strategy. The result: 29,855 kWh (≈20.67%) electricity savings on HVAC in five months (A$64,776.80 saved), ~32 metric tons of CO2 avoided to date, supply fan runtime down ~25%, compressor runtime down ~44%, and a 2% increase in setpoint adherence — all delivered by BrainBox AI’s solution.
