Australian shopping mall results encourage portfolio-wide implementation

Large Australian Shopping Mall partnered with BrainBox AI to address sustainability and operational challenges at its 280,938 sq. ft. shopping centre in the City of Known, Australia. The mall aimed to reduce carbon emissions, cut inefficient HVAC operating costs and ensure optimal occupant comfort by deploying BrainBox AI’s predictive, autonomous HVAC control integrated with the site’s Alerton Optergy control system.

BrainBox AI mapped and normalized existing building data, added weather and tariff inputs, and converted the HVAC system from reactive to pre-emptive; within the first year this delivered a 25% reduction in HVAC electricity (55,513 kWh), avoided 54 metric tons of CO2 to date, saved AUD 9,159.65 on utilities, and cut equipment runtimes (heat pump fans -39.3%, condenser pumps -60%). These measurable results prompted the investment manager to sign a portfolio-wide rollout of more than 38 additional buildings.
