U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Issues Authority to Operate for Box

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs partnered with Box to modernize how it manages and shares sensitive healthcare, research and administrative content. As the VA shifts to a digital-first model, it needed a cloud platform that met strict security and privacy requirements while enabling clinicians, researchers, project managers and veterans to exchange large datasets, grant submissions, AutoCAD files and treatment plans across internal and external teams.

Box was issued an Authority to Operate by the VA, building on its FedRAMP compliance and DoD SRG Impact Level 4 authorization (with FedRAMP High forthcoming) to deliver secure file sharing and collaboration. The platform enabled COVID-19 data sharing to inform facility openings, streamlined construction and research workflows, and helped clinicians collect community treatment plans—boosting agility, reducing costs and protecting sensitive data across the VA.
