Think of Us is a nonprofit tech startup that helps young people aging out of the U.S. foster care system gain independence. Facing a system where critical personal documents (IDs, birth certificates, Social Security cards, ward letters, medical records) are often stuck in caseworker file cabinets, many youth turn 18 without the paperwork or supportive adults they need—contributing to low college completion and high rates of homelessness and unemployment among the roughly 20,000 who age out each year.

Built on Box Cloud Content Management, the Think of Us app provides a secure, HIPAA-compliant digital locker so youth can access and safely share essential documents and assemble a “personal advisory board” of supportive adults; it includes practical security and usability features like preview screens and expiring links. The solution gives vulnerable young people the information, resources, and trusted connections to advocate for themselves and stabilize their lives, while protecting sensitive data—and aims ultimately to help users become fully self-sufficient.
