Sundance Institute - Customer Case Study

Sundance Institute, led by CTO Dave Ginsberg, faced a rapidly changing IT landscape as film and media moved from physical to very large digital formats and new storytelling modes. The organization needed to modernize systems for global collaboration, manage and preserve a one‑of‑a‑kind archive of analog and digital materials, and surface richer metadata to support production, distribution and new immersive formats like VR.

To address this, Sundance relaunched its website, deployed a digital asset management system, began migrating key services like email to the cloud, and adopted Box for collaboration and review/approval workflows. These changes have improved reliability and access, enabled worldwide collaboration and digital distribution support for filmmakers, and set the institute on a path to catalog and protect archives in replicated cloud storage while integrating richer metadata across production workflows.
