IRC Continues International Aid Through Global Uncertainty

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a humanitarian organization that helps people affected by conflict and disaster, operating with 13,000 staff, 10,000 volunteers and 1,000 partners worldwide. COVID-19 threatened to disrupt its frontline work, exposing challenges like legacy on‑premises systems, limited mailbox sizes and unreliable field connectivity that could hinder a rapid shift to fully remote operations.

Because the IRC had already invested in cloud infrastructure and SaaS tools (Box, Office 365/Exchange Online, Salesforce, Workday) and strengthened field connectivity, IT quickly provisioned users and migrated remaining files to Box, enabling US and Europe teams to go fully remote in under 48 hours. As a result, case management and global programming continued without interruption, staff maintained collaboration and social connection via Teams/Zoom, and the organization emerged more resilient with potential long‑term reductions in travel.
