A Box Case Study
Indiana University, led by Cloud Technology Support Manager Bob Flynn, faced the common higher-education challenge of finding a secure, compliant, and usable cloud content platform that could meet widely varying departmental needs without being mandatory. The university needed a solution that supported diverse workflows—from research and healthcare to academics—while addressing accessibility, identity, and data-protection requirements and earning user trust across a large, distributed campus.
Flynn led an Internet2 pilot and rigorous evaluation of Box against higher-ed requirements, helping drive NET+ adoption and IU’s campus rollout. The result: Box became the university’s second-most-used service with over 110,000 active users, spawning innovative, organic use cases (e.g., audio-based language teaching) and pilots like Box Skills to reduce closed-captioning costs—freeing IT to focus on innovation rather than backup maintenance.
