Creating a More Efficient City How Columbia Uses Box

The City of Columbia, MO faced a common municipal challenge: paper-bound processes and fragmented access to critical documents were slowing field workers, complicating collaboration, and raising security and safety concerns across departments. City leaders wanted a way to keep mobile staff in the field longer, deliver up-to-date content to officials, and reduce duplication while protecting sensitive information.

Columbia deployed Box with Samsung Galaxy Tabs so departments can upload and share photos, circuit schematics, codebooks, floor plans and training materials in real time. The result: faster communication, streamlined workflows, centralized storage and stronger admin/security controls — improving operational efficiency, coordination and on-the-job safety, with plans to expand Box citywide.
