Case Study: DonorsChoose.org achieves improved file sharing and lower IT overhead with Box

A Box Case Study

Preview of the DonorsChoose.org Case Study

Box improves file sharing and collaboration, empowering DonorsChoose.org

DonorsChoose.org is a web‑powered charity that lets teachers post classroom needs and donors fund specific projects; since 2000 it has raised over $300 million for more than 560,000 projects and helped 14 million students. As the organization grew, onsite servers and traditional file‑sharing practices—large files sent by email, documents locked on local drives, and IT burdens placed on product engineers—began slowing collaboration with partners and draining resources.

Moving to Box centralized file storage and sharing, enabled secure, permissioned access for staff and external partners, and simplified distribution of high‑resolution assets via shared folders. Within a year DonorsChoose.org retired servers and VPNs, saved on software and hardware costs and hundreds of staff hours, achieved full employee adoption, and improved collaboration and security—helping the organization better serve teachers, donors, and students.
