WaterAid worked with The Bot Platform to find a more personal, engaging way to keep its 64,000+ supporters updated on the impact of its #Untapped fundraising appeal. The charity wanted to move beyond traditional updates and present donations in a human context that helped supporters feel closer to the communities they were helping.

The Bot Platform built “Sellu,” an interactive chatbot experience that let supporters converse with a father, farmer and fisherman in Sierra Leone through messages, photos and video in his own language. The bot adapted to user interests and showed the impact of WaterAid’s work, helping drive strong engagement: 25% of users clicked to donate and active monthly engagement increased by 178%.
