Turner Construction Uses Ground Robots to Cut Inspection Time by Over 95 Percent

Turner Construction, a major international construction services company, sought to enhance the autonomous capabilities of its Boston Dynamics Spot robot to perform daily progress inspections on large, complex data center projects. Their challenge was to efficiently and consistently capture site data without taking valuable time from their contractors.

By implementing DroneDeploy’s Robotics solution integrated with an Insta360 camera on Spot, Boston Dynamics provided a fully autonomous ground robotics system. The robot was able to conduct overnight 360° virtual walkthroughs, cutting inspection time by over 95 percent. This provided Turner with a detailed, daily visual timeline for tracking progress and comparing data against BIM models, saving significant man hours and helping to avoid costly rework.
