North Sea Port Drives Revenues and Efficiencies With Innovative IoT Platform

North Sea Port, which operates three harbors in the Netherlands and Belgium and handles about 50,000 vessels a year, needed to improve operational efficiency, safety and cash flow by streamlining a slow, error‑prone ship registration process that relied on visual scans and manual data entry. The port identified AIS transponder data as an opportunity to automate vessel identification and registration across its 60‑kilometer facility.

Working with Nalta, the port launched the Harmony IoT app and used Dell Boomi to integrate AIS data with its port management system, enabling automated tracking, registration and invoicing. The Boomi‑powered solution increased ship registrations by 25%, cut invoicing from weeks to hours, eliminated roughly 40 hours of manual work per week, strengthened safety by capturing crew and cargo details, and created a scalable platform the port plans to commercialize.
