Moderna Relies on Boomi to Accelerate Employee Onboarding, Boost Productivity

Moderna, the Cambridge-based biotech pioneer of mRNA treatments, faced a growing challenge: rapidly and securely onboarding a surging workforce (about 800 employees) and dozens of contractors while avoiding error-prone manual provisioning. The company needed to connect HR, identity, learning and badge systems—including ServiceNow, Workday, SAP/SAP SuccessFactors, Microsoft Active Directory and Lenel—to ensure new hires had the right access and training from Day One.

Moderna implemented Boomi (Master Data Hub and Integration), partnered with Kitepipe, to automate onboarding and provisioning with 25 processes across 15 integrations (part of 250 Boomi processes companywide). The solution enforces consistent personnel data, issues laptops/badges, controls lab access, and automates offboarding. As a result Moderna supported roughly 250 new hires in the past year, onboards about 600 service providers annually, eliminated hundreds of hours of manual work, improved first-day productivity and employee experience, and strengthened security across the employee lifecycle.
