Meijer Potato Speeds Up Potato Breeding Cycles With Unified Data Management

Meijer Potato, a century‑old Dutch breeder of potato varieties, faced slow 8–10 year breeding cycles driven by fragmented, data‑intensive workflows. Genetic analyses, lab trials, field tests and sensor data lived in legacy systems, spreadsheets and shadow IT, causing errors, delays and expensive outsourcing of large‑scale DNA analysis — hindering speed, accuracy and scalability.

Partnering with Emixa to deploy the Boomi Enterprise Platform on Microsoft Azure, Meijer unified data via Boomi DataHub, added a high‑performance cluster to insource DNA analysis, and connected its Crossing Potatoes app in an event‑driven architecture. The result: breeding cycles shortened by several years, real‑time visibility and better data governance, reduced costs and outsourcing, streamlined operations, and higher employee productivity.
