Florida International University Transforms Its Mobile App in Two Months, Improving the Student Experience

Florida International University (FIU), a large public research university in Miami, needed to modernize its student information system (SIS) and mobile app to support a strategic focus on student success. The existing monolithic SIS and legacy mobile backend had become fragmented over time, relying on more than 40 disparate data sources and custom integrations that each took up to two months of a developer’s time, limiting the university’s ability to deliver seamless, collaborative student experiences.

FIU adopted the Boomi low-code integration platform for its reusable components, prebuilt connectors, and API management, and began deploying integrations within weeks. The team has completed more than 80 integrations (including PeopleSoft, Barnes & Noble, Duolingo and Amazon S3), rebuilt the app backend in two months (vs. a decade for the original build), enabled near real-time data flows for services like TOEFL scoring, and now supports nearly 100,000 users while reducing integration timelines from months to days or weeks.
