A Boomi Case Study
De Volksbank, a major Dutch retail bank serving over 3.2 million customers across four brands (SNS, ASN, Regiobank and BLG Wonen), faced growing operational overhead and interoperability issues from multiple API gateways and independently managed PSD2 APIs. The bank needed a cross-vendor developer/admin portal and governance dashboard to set consistent style guides and guardrails, centralize visibility, improve API reuse and scalability, and reduce developer turnaround time.
De Volksbank implemented the Boomi API Control Plane as a federated, cross-vendor API management layer, modernizing gateway infrastructure, enabling CI/CD operations, and creating a complete API inventory with cross-platform guardrails and self-service portals. The control plane consolidated governance into a single dashboard, increased vendor collaboration through a governance board, introduced security and quality scoring, reduced API sprawl, and allowed the bank to centralize cataloging and control while retaining federated execution—lowering complexity and costs and improving delivery and governance.
