CSU Accelerates Student Grant Delivery With Boomi

California State University (CSU), the nation’s largest four‑year public university system with 450,000 students across 23 campuses, faced slow Cal Grant processing because campuses manually exported PeopleSoft student data via FTP to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). The month‑long, labor‑intensive workflow (about 70 hours of manual work) delayed aid decisions and sometimes affected students’ ability to enroll.

CSU’s Chancellor’s Office implemented Boomi APIs (managed by Unisys on a secure AWS private cloud) to automate data collection from PeopleSoft and transmit it to CSAC, cutting Cal Grant processing from four weeks to about three days and already rolling out to eight campuses. Once deployed to all 23 campuses, the integration will handle data for 170,000 potential recipients, operate 10× faster, enable roughly 20,000 grants a year, and significantly reduce manual work while improving financial aid efficiency.
