Easterseals Bay Area (ESBA), a nonprofit serving people with disabilities since 1927, seized an opportunity after a 2012 California law and an HMO partnership to expand into behavioral healthcare. To scale from a donation-driven charity to a large provider network, ESBA needed a secure, modern digital information system that linked providers, patients and funders, complied with HIPAA/HITECH and state rules, and delivered a 360-degree referral-to-intake view plus efficient billing and claims processing.
ESBA implemented the Boomi integration platform—using low-code configuration, prebuilt connectors and multi-protocol support (REST, EDI, HL7)—to connect AthenaHealth, Salesforce Health Cloud, NetSuite and mobile apps into a unified, compliant ecosystem. The result: real-time data flow and better data quality, faster claims, a complete patient lifecycle view, and rapid scale to 7,000 practitioners and $180M in billings, handling millions of transactions.
