United Way of Rhode Island - Customer Case Study

United Way of Rhode Island launched 401Gives, its first statewide Giving Day, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and needed a virtual, scalable way to support 366 nonprofits while coordinating prizes, a match-hour, peer-to-peer fundraising, and remote team collaboration. To run the event they partnered with Bonterra GiveGab and used Bonterra GiveGab’s Giving Day platform to host and manage the campaign.

Bonterra GiveGab provided a streamlined onboarding process, a dedicated project manager, and a flexible Giving Day platform (allowing early and extended giving windows, prize mechanics and peer-to-peer tools) that supported United Way’s prize strategy and match-hour. The results were strong: in 2020 401Gives raised $1,310,480 from 7,545 donors (including over $149K for COVID-19 response and a $55K match depleted in 27 minutes), and in 2021 totals jumped to $2,291,467 from 12,088 donors (a 75% increase), demonstrating clear measurable impact.
