A Bonterra GiveGab Case Study
North Carolina State University faced the challenge of moving beyond traditional, largely one-way fundraising outreach to create a more interactive, campus-wide philanthropic experience that could engage alumni, students, and units across a large university. To do this they partnered with Bonterra GiveGab and explored a Giving Day platform to build a branded, mobile-friendly microsite with options for donors to discover and support many funds, plus gamification to boost engagement.
Bonterra GiveGab delivered its Giving Days solution with dedicated project management, a custom microsite, leaderboards and gamification, a Volunteer Ambassador (Free-Agent-Fundraiser) program, donation upsells, and analytics. The results were significant: NC State’s inaugural 2019 Day of Giving raised $13.5M (10,813 gifts) and by 2022 the event raised $23.1M from 14,542 gifts; volunteers alone raised $5,767,114.96 via 4,476 gifts, and an upsell for the Extraordinary Opportunity Scholarship generated 114 gifts totaling $6,281 — demonstrating clear increases in donors, engagement, and fundraising.
