Project ReConnect bridges the gap for vulnerable customers after Iowa’s “hurricane”

Alliant Energy faced a sudden crisis when a derecho knocked out power to 256,000 homes and many low-income families needed up to $1,500 in electrical repairs to be reconnected. To respond quickly, Alliant Energy launched Project ReConnect and used Bonterra CyberGrants (Bonterra Corporate Social Responsibility) to mobilize employee giving and coordinate distribution with local nonprofit partners.

Using Bonterra CyberGrants, Project ReConnect raised $105,000 in employee donations within weeks; the Alliant Energy Foundation matched those gifts two-to-one, bringing the total to $315,000. Bonterra CyberGrants helped streamline fundraising and grant distribution with four partner nonprofits, enabling repairs for everyone who needed assistance and supporting broader recovery efforts.
