A Bonterra Apricot Case Study
Good Shepherd Services is a leading New York City nonprofit delivering 85+ youth, education, and family programs to more than 30,000 people in underserved neighborhoods. Their challenge was to implement consistent, evidence‑based practices across diverse sites, reliably measure fidelity and participant outcomes, and identify which services should be scaled or modified to improve social mobility and long‑term success.
Since 2006 Good Shepherd centralized evaluation through a Program Evaluation and Planning team using Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) software, logic models, validated measures, and research partnerships (CIDI, CUNY, NYU). This data-driven approach enabled continuous learning and improvement, produced evidence of gains in social‑emotional outcomes and engagement, and showed that Learning‑to‑Work internships increased graduation likelihood by nearly 25 percentage points for low‑credit students—strengthening program delivery and advocacy.
