A Board Case Study
Hapag‑Lloyd, a leading global liner shipping company with 235 container ships, 12,800 employees and operations in 128 countries, faced highly complex, multi‑layered planning across about 400 planners. Annual bottom‑up planning, frequent budgets and forecasts, and monthly updates relied on disparate Excel files sent from 128 countries, making consolidation slow, error‑prone and labour‑intensive and limiting transparency between operations, sales and finance.
Hapag‑Lloyd implemented Board, integrated with SAP and proprietary systems via SQL Server and an SAP connector, to create a driver‑based single point of truth linking capacity, sales and cost planning. The rollout delivered global access to consistent data, drill‑down transparency, automated repetitive tasks and a rolling forecast capability—cutting lead times, reducing workload while keeping planner headcount and buy‑in, and enabling rapid development (20 planning masks in six months) for ongoing reporting and dashboard phases.
