A BoardDocs Case Study
San Diego Unified School District was facing a growing public-records backlog that pushed routine requests to three months or longer, well beyond the state’s 10-day requirement. To improve transparency and speed responses the district turned to BoardDocs, the web-based document portal it already used for agendas and staff reports, to broaden public access to records.
The district began uploading the bulk of documents provided in response to Public Records Act requests into the BoardDocs library so pages and attachments can be accessed as they are released, with exceptions for unredacted student or employee information. By posting records directly on BoardDocs (which serves 2,000+ public agencies), the district aimed to shorten response times, make requests and responses immediately available to the public, and address complaints and litigation over access.
