Preview of the Vale Base Metals Case Study

Vale Base Metals lifts board satisfaction from 2/10 to 7/10 with Board Intelligence

Vale Base Metals, a major global mining operation, faced a challenge in board effectiveness during a period of transformation with a new CEO and evolving board structure. Their board reporting had become lengthy and unfocused, hindering strategic discussion. To address this, CEO Shaun Usmar engaged Board Intelligence to improve their approach to board information.

Board Intelligence worked with Vale Base Metals to reshape their board reporting using the Question-Driven Insight (QDI) Principle methodology and introduced their board reporting software. This involved creating a new CEO report and KPI dashboard, alongside training for the management team. The result was a dramatic improvement, with board satisfaction scores rising from 2/10 to 7/10. Meetings became more productive and strategic, accelerating decision-making and enabling the board to focus on long-term priorities.
