A BNSF Logistics Case Study
National Rail Operator worked with BNSF Logistics on a special project involving a catenary tension stringing machine and a work car manufactured by Tesmec in Alvarado, Texas. The customer needed on-site inspection support during design and construction, and then expanded the engagement to include planning and execution of the move of these 86- and 110-ton units to Delaware.
BNSF Logistics developed an engineered rail-based transport plan that used cranes, trucks, transload handling, and idler cars to meet AAR and FRA requirements, while also shrink-wrapping the units for protection. By moving the equipment via rail across BNSF, NS, and CSX lines, BNSF Logistics reduced shipping costs by 44% and successfully delivered both commodities on schedule.
