Large Engineering and Project Management Company - Customer Case Study

A large Engineering and Project Management Company, operating in more than 80 countries across gases, technologies, and services for industry and health sectors, needed an economical way to move two extremely large vessels from Duluth, MN to Red Deer, Alberta. Because the vessels were among the largest commodities ever shipped by rail in North America, the project presented major size, weight, and routing challenges. BNSF Logistics provided the rail transportation and engineering support needed for this complex oversized shipment.

BNSF Logistics engineered a securement solution that included bolster plates, an idler car to meet axle-load spacing constraints, railcar inspections, and laser scan surveys before and after transport. Working closely with BNSF, Canadian Pacific Railway, and other parties, BNSF Logistics coordinated the move seamlessly and delivered both vessels on time, on budget, and without incident. By combining the shipments with other customers’ freight, the company also increased transport efficiency.
