A B&M Waste Case Study
Edge Hill University, a campus-based public university in Lancashire, needed a new three-year integrated waste management service to replace a vehicle-heavy system that was creating carbon emissions, noise, congestion, limited waste data, and weak control over waste output. B&M Waste won the tender with a service designed to improve sustainability across the 160-acre campus.
B&M Waste introduced a central mini recycling centre, supported by two on-site operatives using an electric truck and trailer to collect waste from around campus for sorting and processing through compactors and balers. The new approach delivered zero waste to landfill from day one, reduced collection vehicle movements from six days a week to once weekly, created two jobs, and helped Edge Hill University divert 266,049 kg of waste from landfill while operating a carbon-neutral waste management strategy.
